We know you as the talent behind the lens but can you tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Tatiana Osorio, I’m 36 years young and I come from a small, yet quintessentially beautiful port city of Mexico called Campeche. I’m the oldest of my two siblings. I originally studied Architecture in Merida and then I moved to Madrid, Spain to study a Masters in Interior Design.
How did you end up in Reading?
After a vibrant 4 years living in Madrid, we decided to move to UK to start a new life in 2013. England was the place my husband had fallen in love with when he came to study English, he used to live in Devon and now I fully understand why he convinced me to come to this part of the world.
We found Reading on our research and discovered that it is a lovely town and very close to London so it was perfect for us and our first little girl who was 2 years old at this time.
What motivates you to get out of bed each morning and if you could do anything for one day what would it be?
My day can’t start without coffee and travelling is another of my passions, living abroad gives me the opportunity to have always the excuse to plan a trip away.
If I had to choose a place to go for one day I would say to my house in Mexico with my parents and spend all day with them.
What do you do besides photography?
My day job is as a Designer consultant for a company that designs Hotels and Residentials projects. One of the projects I worked from the beginning to the end was The St Regis Malaysia and others like The Okura, in Japan or the small refurbishment of some guestrooms of Corinthia London. I’m so proud of it.
Have you always been interested in photography?
I think photography has been always an interesting skill for me, it’s also a creative field but very challenging, and the real interest started when my first daughter was born. We were given the camera as a wedding present, so I took pictures every time I could of her but I didn’t truly know anything about photography yet.
When my second daughter was born that I realised I was taking the photos incorrectly. Basically, in technical terms, I was shooting in automatic in a DSRL camera so I wasn’t using it properly, and I decided after this epiphany to study and learn more.
It was from this time that photography started to become a real passion for me. It’s something that makes me happy. There are bad days when the creativity seems to pass through the camera on to me and makes me feel better.
My family are my inspiration and they are usually my models, sometimes it is not easy because, of course, they can be tired of me and the camera but I try to capture every special moment I can.
When did you make the transition from people to life photography?
Photography turned serious one day, when Anita asked me to do a photo session of her beautiful flowers, and at the beginning I wasn’t sure, because my lack of confidence but she was so enthusiastic and told me that she just loved my photos on my Instagram, so I did it.
This has been the beginning of a lovely friendship and a strong motivation for me to work more and learn more about life photography. She has true passion and love for the plants and flowers so my goal is to transmit that into pictures.
Every session is a new challenge in a good way, I really enjoy doing it and hearing the positive feedback is the best reward.
I have also been lucky to be the photographer of my best friend wedding in London, again there is a lot of learn still, but it was an amazing experience, I have done a couple of “smash cake” sessions, new born session for friends, but I always try to capture the most natural shots possible.
For me it’s important to capture the real story, the emotional part and I think the light plays a very important part of it, so I’m constantly looking for a good light at home for each picture.
Do you want to move to photography as a full-time occupation or will this remain as a hobby?
It is still very much a hobby at the moment but I always try to push myself to capture something where after the event the picture talks by itself.
I have to say that this community is amazing and I love to work with the Dried & Floral ladies, I do appreciate the opportunity to be part of the team when I can.
Do you do any other photography work?
I love documenting my life through pictures and I’m always open to help capture precious moments of people’s life too. I am honoured to be a part of a life journey captured in a moment, so if someone requests a photo shoot, I’m happy to help.
My Instagram is full of my favourite photos, is other platform that helps me to improve my learning and this journey.
I love the quote “Collect Moments Not Things” and photography can give that.
I would love to work in photography more often in the next years, make a proper business of it but still sharing my time working as a Designer too. We will see. 😊
